Haiku Evening
On 11 September 2008 during Adult Learners' Week we had one of our more unusual events to launch our very own poetry anthology, One Hundred Haiku.
This was the culmination of a poupou-wide project which brought students, tutors and staff together to produce an anthology of 100 short poems. The beautiful hand-bound books were launched at a gala evening in the courtyard outside our offices by local MP Clare Curran. The Japanese Ambassador sent a message of support, and tutors and students read some of their haiku. The courtyard was decorated with paper lanterns, haiku mobiles and brightly-coloured banners, some of which later became permanent decorations for our offices. The catering was lavish, and vast quantities of sushi were consumed!
