Our Librarylibrary

The library of teaching resources is set up in a converted flat across the hall from our main office. We also have additional tutoring rooms here.

The library contains a wide range of reading matter for adults ranging from the basic JR Readers, through the Slice of Life series and the Learning Media Collections (taken from School Journals) through to our recently purchased Critical Reading Series which contain groups of non-fiction high-interest articles under such titles as Phenomena and Calamities, each with a series of questions designed to develop the reader's critical reading abilities.

The library also contains a wealth of tutor handbooks together with worksheets or exercises for the learner. These, for the beginner reader/writer, or one who has no phonic understanding, include the Simplistikit, a hands-on approach using cards with individual letters, diagraphs, blends and suffixes etc., Joy Allcock's Switch on to Spelling and Spelling under Scrutiny, complete with student activity books, and Toe by Toe, which is particularly useful with dyslexic learners. We have a large collection of resources for the more advanced reader and writer, such as the Curriculum Concepts Adult Skills Series which include punctuation, spelling, comprehension and cloze exercises. We also have board games designed to have fun as well as improving spelling.
